People who desire ways to make technology useful will be able to create wealth for themselves and others. The key to wealth creation is the ability to design processes of technology that benefit humanity. Designs of processes for information technologies need to benefit humanity.  How can  design processes for information technologies make office work easier and more enjoyable? Some day, robots and Artificial Intelligence will take over office jobs. Until that day, how can information technologies be designed to make office work easier and more enjoyable?

All work should be automated, unless people enjoy doing the work. Technologies have been created to make work quicker and easier and to make the quality of life better. Keeping that in mind, it's easy to forecast how technology will be changing our lives in the future. Let's talk about the different technologies. Biotechnology is altering the genetic makeup of biological organisms, thus making health products better and making the food we eat healthier and more available at lower prices. Infotechnologies are making office work easier and quicker, and making information more available to more parts of the population. Nanotechnology will be interacting with bio- and info- technologies to improve the quality of life for humanity. Biotechnology will be used to make our health optimal with the help of nanotechnology; while information technologies will automate all know processes with the help of nanotechnology. Chemical technology will make new materials for minimal costs. Energy technology will make energy abundant and cheap with the help of nanotechnology. Environmental technology will make environment cleaner by eliminating waste and pollution at the source. This will be done through the interaction of bio-, info-, and nano- technology. New technologies can be used for good and evil. Life can be made much better for people or it can be made miserable through the use of technologies. The defining factor is it's use and not it's functionality. Humans create technologies and find uses for technologies.  Humans will choose how technologies will be used and how life will be changed by new technologies.  All these technologies will usher in the Age of Abundance, creating synthetic resources to replace natural resources, making energy abundant and cheap, and producing goods and services with little help from humans.

Intelligence is the ability to use optimally limited resources, including time, to achieve a set of goals (which may include survival, communication, solving problems, recognizing patterns, performing skills). The products of intelligence may be clever, ingenious, insightful, or elegant. Intelligence is "that faculty of mind by which order is perceived in a situation previously considered disordered.

The world needs economic justice. Work needs to be done towards creating a world with better economic justice. Start by reading and writing about economic justice, and then join organizations that promote economic justice for different population groups.

Using databases, word processors, and the Internet, clerical jobs can be automated and human workers can be free to think about the organization they work for. Humans will also be freed to think about the processes of their work and how they could be performed quicker and easier. Information Systems will enable clients to input their own information and find answers to their own questions.

Because of terrorism, the poor can hurt the rich. The rich can help the poor and give the poor less reason to commit terrorist acts. The problem of wealth and poverty is a lack of equitable distribution. To reduce the lack of equitable distribution, wealth-creating technologies should be made available to larger portions of the population around the world. Thus, the goal of controlling technologies should be replaced with the goal of creating and contributing to networks of knowledge of technologies. A good place to start is at technological knowledge creators, universities, corporations, and government agencies.

Organizations like chambers of commerce should be in charge of organizing the resources of communities. If done properly, people in communities will feel integrated into their surrounding neighborhood. In this way, people in rich areas can lead by example for people in poor areas. For people in rich areas that want to help those in poor areas, they should focus their efforts on developing community resources such as chambers of commerce, universities corporations, and government agencies.

In American politics, the struggle is over how the wealth derived from technologies should be distributed. Republicans seem to want wealth concentrated while Democrats seem to want wealth evenly distributed throughout society. This would mean that Republicans would want knowledge of technologies to be concentrated while Democrats would want knowledge of technologies evenly distributed throughout society.  Those who help people acquire and create knowledge of technologies will gain tremendous popularity. The political party that does so can expect political success as we approach the Age of Abundance. Politicians are individuals, and as individuals, they should know a lot about many technologies.

Websites should be used as a promotion tool for economic justice. Simply by working on such websites, people can join the promotion of economic justice.

To promote economic justice, wealth needs to come from somewhere if it is to be evenly distributed throughout the population. The function of collecting wealth and then evenly distributing is the responsibility of the government. It is not easy to collect wealth from individuals. It is much easier to create an abundance of goods and services and distribute to where they are needed. Such production is made increasingly easier through the advancing of technologies. In the current century, technologies are advancing rapidly through the institutions of government agencies, universities, and corporations.

What is the nature of wealth that needs to be evenly distributed, and what gets in the way of evenly distributing wealth? At the moment, wealth is paper certificates that can be traded for goods and services. In the past, wealth was goods and services that could be traded for other goods and services. In the future, wealth will be knowledge of technologies that can create the desired goods and services. Getting in the way of evenly distributing goods and services are members of the population that possess an abundance of wealth and don't care to part with their wealth. Any system that seeks to take wealth away from individuals and then redistribute such wealth is bound to create angry members of the population. The focus must be on increasing goods and services and distributing them evenly.  When goods and services are evenly distributed, quality of life issues will be the primary source of political debate.

What do people do when wealth is evenly distributed, and there is an abundance of wealth to be distributed? Do nothing? They will be free to do what they like. Satisfying the need to have a decent quality of life will lead to different activities for different people. The main difference between now and then is the universal freedom to spend time as one chooses. Without having to work, people will seek entertainment. Some people will be entertained by watching other people engaged in enjoyable activities. Others will be entertained through the use of technologies. Like all other industries, the entertainment industry will be fully automated, except for the work that people enjoy doing, as entertainment. The corporations leading the entertainment industry are AOL-Tin1e Warner, Disney, News Corp., and Sony, while Microsoft seems to be trying to enter the industry as well. For universities, government agencies, and chambers of commerce to get involved in the entertainment industry, they should get to know about how entertainment products are created by studying the activities of entertainment corporations.

The future of politics is tied to the emerging economic landscape of how businesses use technologies. The crucial debate will be over how knowledge of technologies should be distributed through society. The more widely distributed such knowledge the more equitable a society, the happier each individual can be. A happy society will put technologies to good uses. Unhappy individuals will seek to put technologies to harmful uses. The collective power of people in the form of government should aim to keep all people happy.

While such an aim can never be achieved, a good first step is to foster the creation of knowledge communities. Such communities would be centered by organizations such as universities, corporations, and government agencies, chambers of commerce, and media outlets. Knowledge should be free to all through such institutions as libraries and public schools. Connecting humans with the technologies of bio-, info-, and nano- science will be engineers, who will be designing systems that harness technologies to humanity's benefit. The key to a happy future for

humans is the proper mix of communities with universities, corporations, government agencies, chambers of commerce, media outlets, libraries, public schools, and engineers.

Engineers will harness various technologies. Technology is an evolving process of tool creation to shape and control the environment. Artificial Intelligence includes the fields of knowledge-based systems, expert systems, pattern recognition, automatic learning, natural-language understanding, and robotics. Bioengineering is the field of designing pharmaceutical drugs and strains of plant and animal life by directly modifying the genetic code. Bioengineered materials, drugs, and life forms are used in agriculture, medicine, and the treatment of disease. Nanotechnology involves designing and manufacturing products and other objects based on the manipulation

of atoms and molecules, building machines atom by atom, on the scale of a billionth of a meter, which is the width of five carbon atoms.

In Artificial Intelligence, there are neural nets. Neural Nets are created through the following steps: (1) define the input,

(2) Define the topology of the neural net (layers of neurons and the connections between the neurons), (3) train the neural net on examples of the problem, (4) Run the trained neural net to solve new examples of the problem. There is also genetic algorithms.

Genetic algorithms are models that use a population of simulated "individuals" that

are created and undergo a process of evolution in a simulated competitive environment. Expert Systems are computer programs that solves a problem using a database of expert knowledge on a topic. There is also knowledge engineering. Knowledge engineering is the art of designing and building expert systems. In particular, collecting knowledge and heuristic rules from human experts in their area of specialty and assembling them into a knowledge base or expert system. Information is a sequence of data that is meaningful in a process, such as the DNA code of an organism or the bits in a computer program. Information is contrasted with "noise", which is a random sequence. However, neither noise or information is predictable.

All of life should be a game for everyone. With technologies creating an abundance of goods and services and reducing the need for human labor, people will need something productive to do. So make work feel like playing a game. Make the use of technologies feel like playing a video game. Make the cooperation of people feel like being involved in a game. What makes playing games enjoyable? Some play games for the thrill of winning, while others play for the enjoyment of play with other people. Under capitalism, some play games in the hope of winning money, while others earn money for just playing the game. In the age of Abundance, people will play games in the hope of gaining knowledge. People will design games in the hope of teaching players same knowledge. The concept of money will be replaced with the concept of knowledge as the ultimate reward for playing games. Beyond teaching knowledge, playing games will also create goods and services, through the use of technologies in the games. The creation of such productive games will be made easier and enjoyable through the use of infotechnologies. Once designs are created, production of games are fully automated. Inspiration for game design will come from the entertainment industry, which has vast knowledge of what people enjoy doing when not working.

Few people want to do things that are difficult. Given a choice of doing something the hard way or doing it the easy way, most will choose the easy way. Games should be easy to play. The creation of games should also be easy. Technologies should make the creation of games easy. Game corporations include Acclaim, Activision, Electronic Arts, and of course Microsoft. Universities, government agencies, and chambers of commerce should get involved in the creation of video games. Entertainment corporations such as AOL-Time Warner, Disney, News Corp., and Sony should be getting involved in the creation of video games.

So let's start our journey towards the Age of Abundance locally. I'm in Worcester, Massachusetts. The corporations in Worcester are primarily financial, with Allmerica Financial being the largest. Universities in Worcester are Worcester Polytechnic Institute, Clark, Worcester State College, Assumption, and Holy Cross.

Websites of Worcester include: 4worcester.com, ci.worcester.ma.us, worcester.org, worcestermass.com, worcesternet.com, metropages.com, greaterworcester.org, worcester.ma.us, wbjournal.com,

This should be done for every community that people have a connection to. I have a connection to Scituate, Cape Cod, and Worcester Massachusetts, Charlestown, Rhode Island, Toronto, Ontario, and Kensington, Prince Edward Island. What corporations, universities, government agencies, and chambers of commerce are in these communities?

It is also important to get such information about the major cities near your commununity.

In my case, the cities are Boston, Providence, Worcester, Toronto, and Chalottetown.

Boston websites are: ci.boston.ma.us, 123boston.com, bestboston.com, 4boston.cam, iboston.com

Providence websites are: 4providence.com, providenceri.com, providencecvb.com ... Toronto websites are: city.toronto.on.ca, metrotor.on.ca, showmetoronto.com,' toronto.com

Each city has a past for people to explore through museums, books, movies, shows, and games. Each city has social organizations for creating movies and shows. Individuals will be  creating the books and games, while staffing the museums .

People like to listen to music, but not many can produce enjoyable music to listen to. This situation will change as the production of music is automated through the use of infotechnology. People will be able to combine parts of their favorite songs to create new songs. People will be able to choose the voice singing, the instruments used, the lyrics of songs, length of the song, etc. Microsoft can take a lead in the music by creating systems that enable people to create their own music. Through its' Media Player, Microsoft can take the lead in creating systems that enable people to create movies, shows, games, and music. Microsoft will enter these industries as they lose market share in the operating system market to open source operating systems like Linux. These operating systems will control the functions of robots. Microsoft will also create operating systems for robots, but their focus will be on creating application software for robots.

Microsoft will also be creating educational software that teaches how technologies work. Once knowledge of technologies is achieved, people will use Microsoft tools to use technologies in creating goods and services.  Microsoft can take the lead in entering the Age of Abundance by creating software tools that enable people to design goods and services, and software tools for the Media Player that enable people to create movies, music, games, and books.

Microsoft set out to get into the center of every personal computer, and they had tremendous financial success in doing so. As personal computers gained in popularity, Microsoft software was in most of them controlling their activities. Microsoft should follow a similar strategy in the personal robot industry, by creating systems that control the activities of robots. Personal robots should gain in popularity faster than personal computers, as they share many traits as personal computers. The easier robots are to understand and program, the quicker they will gain in popularity. Microsoft is well positioned to dominate the personal robot industry, but they first have to treat the operating systems for personal computers as a Cash Cow segment of their business. They will miss out on controlling the personal-robot industry if they devote most of their resources defending their share of the shrinking personal computer industry.

Of course, in the Age of Abundance, success is no longer measured by financial metrics. It is measured by contributions to knowledge networks. Microsoft will gain tremendous knowledge of technologies by creating software that controls the usage of technologies, which the personal robot is just one of many. By acquiring and creating  knowledge of technologies, Microsoft will find the transition into the age of Abundance quick and painless. By clinging on to their success in the personal computer industry, they will find the transition into the Age of Abundance quite painful, perhaps fatal.

As the Age of Abundance, values of goods and services will continuously decline. Businesses that rely on increasing prices will struggle to survive. Those with fixed expenses such as debt payments and upkeep of plant and equipment will fail. Those who keep focused on acquiring and creating knowledge of technologies will survive and be well positioned to contribute to networks of knowledge about technologies.
